Thank you for this article! I must live under a rock, because I'm not sure that I ever heard of these Frog and Toad stories. It's making me think I'll have to request these at the local library sometime (and let the librarian laugh at the idea of an almost 20-year-old woman taking out a children's book).

The best children’s books, I am discovering, are worth reading for adults too!

I just stumbled across your blog - love it! How about a review of some Virginia Lee Burton? She’s a favorite in our house: Little House (the nature study!), Katy and the Bug Snow (the geography!), and Mike Mulligan (the geometry!). Your analysis of Rousseau in children’s literature has been eye-opening to me. I feel like I’ve been able to weed out the twaddle based on instinct, but this is a new level. Interesting stuff!

Alyssa, thanks! I'm going to add your suggestions to my review queue--and also homeschooling book list for my kids! So, thanks for the suggestions for both reviewing and for home reading here :) And based on your comment, it might be a good idea for me to write something specifically on Twaddle vis-a-vis the "Rousseau criteria." Keep up the suggestions!
